A powerful 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey’s northwestern Balikesir province on Sunday, killing one person and injuring at least 29 others. The quake, centered in Sindirgi, caused 16 buildings and two mosque minarets to collapse, with tremors felt as far as Istanbul. Rescue teams pulled survivors from the rubble, while President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed condolences and called for national resilience.
